I know I haven't posted in weeks, but we were busy hiking in Colorado then exploring Canyonlands, Arches, and Yellowstone with very limited cell connectivity. Now we are back in the bustling metropolis of Rapid City, South Dakota with connections to the outside world. Today we are just outside Badlands National Park, camping in Wall, South Dakota, at the same campground where we stayed 2 years ago and had to evacuate for a tornado watch, then had to endure 1-2 (or 5, depending on whose story you believe) hours of train cars connecting and disconnecting (or the bowels of the earth opening up and swallowing us whole, depending on whose story you believe). Well, we are back, and just as we all shut our eyes around midnight, we heard that all-too-familiar train horn that immediately started the PTSD flashbacks to the wee hours of July 3, 2011. Thankfully, it took just 9 minutes and the train was gone. Here's hoping that's it for tonight! We wouldn't want to spoil what has been an otherwise perfect day on the road trip.
I've got several blog posts and pictures queued up and (almost) ready to go. Perhaps tomorrow on the road to Omaha I'll be able to fill you in on the bear that joined us for dinner in the Grand Tetons and how I survived Yellowstone with no cell phone and no husband. (Jim had to work back in Boston from Salt Lake City -> Yellowstone -> Rapid City.) We are glad to have him back!
Until tomorrow... Hopefully we will all sleep blissfully for 5 or 6 hours. (She says as Mary stirs in her crib on the other side of the tent...)
